Ambassadors 2006

Ambassadors for Christ: Malmö | April 9-17, 2006

“This is the best thing that has happened to me in my life” said one attendee of “Ambassadors for Christ”, Easter 2006. The week was hosted by the Malmö Adventist church, organised by LifeStyleTV and supported by the Swedish Union of Seventh-day Adventists. 154 people, mostly under 30 year olds, registered for a week of practical witnessing and Bible training, or the inspirational weekend, with teachers David Asscherick, Nathan Renner and Scott Moore from The ARISE Institute, USA. The goals of the week were to equip the participants for active ministry and to reach out to people on the street through the Trovärdighet series.

The week started a little wet and overcast, but the enthusiasm inside the Malmö church soon brought the sun out. Over 60 young people hit the streets with 20,000 invitations to the four-part evening Trovadighet Christian apologetics series. “This is the best Christian meeting I have been to” said one visitor. “David Asscherick is a very interesting speaker. I would like to come and visit this church again,” said another visitor, a believer, but not a church-goer, who came all four nights. Twenty-six different people from the street registered and attended the evening meetings, but many more preferred to attend without registering. The series was taped for TV and will be available on DVD mid-May.

Each afternoon the “Ambassadors for Christ” put into action what they had learned in the morning training sessions. The second afternoon, young and old went out for 3 hours and collected over 220 religious interest surveys from LifeStyleTV, resulting in 31 requests for Bible studies, 15 requests for Bibles, and 45 saying the would be interested in studying the Bible some time, but didn’t want to give their contact details. Praise God! The Holy Spirit works to reach hearts even in Sweden! One man from the street even dropped by during a training session where Scott Moore was showing how to give a Bible study, using Daniel 2. The man was so impressed that he asked for the seminar handout for that class.

Between meetings and in breaks, you could see the groups of young people around the speakers eagerly asking questions about the Bible. All thoughout the week there was a “warm and friendly atmosphere” as one young person commented, and you could see people’s attitudes change through the working of God’s Spirit on their hearts.

The highlight of the week for many was the weekend. Sabbath morning David made a gospel appeal to the 200 plus people who packed the church upstairs and downstairs. Over 30 recommitted their lives to God, with 12 choosing to prepare for baptism. On Sunday three young men sealed their decision with baptism, bringing tears of joy for many there, with three more people making decisions for baptism.

“God really spoke to me through David and Scott. The result was that 30 people decided to give their lives to God – and I was one of them. 100/500 will give RESULTS!” said one young person. Local people who hadn’t been to church for years attended the meetings. Only in eternity will we see the full results of all the unseen things that happened this week.
